At Bow Wow Labs, we can’t believe that summer is almost over. Time flies when you spend your days running through sprinklers, chasing your own tail and chewing on Bully Sticks. If you’re like us though, summer wouldn’t be complete without an end of the summer road trip. What better way to prepare for another year than by gathering the family (human or canine) into the car, rollin’ down the windows and soaking in one last taste of sweet summer vacation.
Taking a summer road trip doesn’t have to be a big to-do. In fact, the best part about road trips is that they can be somewhat last minute and taken on whim! Even so, there are some things you should be prepared for when bringing Fido on your adventure. Bow Wow Labs is here with our top tips for keeping your pet safe on this year’s end of the summer road trip:
1. Exercise your pet first
First thing’s first, give your pet adequate exercise before jumping in the car.
You know the age old saying, “A well exercised dog is a well-behaved dog?” This couldn’t be more true when taking a road trip with your pup. Not only will your dog be well-behaved if they are tired, but it also helps to calm any nerves they might have about being in the car or cooped up for a longer-than-normal period of time.
2. Keep your pet entertained
After that rush of endorphins from the pre-trip exercise wears off, it’s important to keep your pup stimulated and entertained.
Much like those drop-down video players SUVs come with these days intended to pacify human brothers and sisters alike, entertainment for your pup is just as important for a successful road trip. Just in case your pup’s favorite prime time program isn’t available to stream, try giving them their favorite chew treat (ahem, BWL Bully Sticks and a Bully Buddy perhaps?) to keep them entertained and engaged.
3. Don't leave your pet alone in the car
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for your pet’s safety, do not ever leave your pup alone in a parked car.
Even if you are stopping quickly for gas or that must-have fast food meal, your car can become a furnace almost instantly, putting your pup’s health in danger. Research and take a pet-friendly route so that when you make stops, Fido can come with you everywhere you go!
Happy Travels!
